Swimming or running, both are very popular, which one is better for you?
Like anything else, everyone needs, enjoys, wants, and should do different things. Swimming and running are both very beneficial exercises. Your activity of choice should depend on many factors.
Swimming is low impact, utilizes more muscles, and since water reduces body weight, can reduce the stress on joints. While it reduces body weight, water will provide much greater resistance than air.
Running is a weight bearing exercise that will help deter bone loss. It is high-impact, high intensity. It raises your heart rate and respiratory functions. It does put strain on joints and soft body tissues, which can lead to injury.
Both activities will burn calories but running will burn more, especially at speeds greater than 5 mph, when performed for the same duration of time.
