Every bride wants to look her best for the big day, but how far would you go to lose those last unwanted pounds?  Commonly referred as the Wedding Dress Diet, Nose Drip Diet, or KEN (Ketogenic Enteral Nutrition ) Diet, I bring to you the latest crash diet craze for anyone looking to lose weight in a short period of time.  This diet boasts big losses of up to 20 pounds in 10 days.  It almost sounds to good to be true, eh?.  The fun is about to begin.

For a nominal fee of approximately $1500, your physician will thread a nasogastric tube down your esophagus so that 800 calories of protein rich fluid accompanied with an appetite suppressant can be released into your stomach.  You won’t have to swallow, chew, or drink anything for 10 days, and you won’t be hungry.  Doesn’t this sound fabulous?  Not only do you have the pleasure of walking around with a tube hanging down your face, but you get to carry bags of fluid with you wherever you go.  It sounds almost like a mini workout.

How this works is a process called ketosis.  Ketosis is a condition by which the lack of carbohydrate consumption forces your body to burn fat at an abnormally high rate.  When consuming a normal diet blending complex carbohydrates, protein, and fats, your body will burn carbohydrates and protein before fat because it is more efficient and easier to convert to glycogen.  This is the same premise as any low carb diet (Dukan, Atkins, etc).

Before you say, “Sign me up!”, you might want to consider if the side effects and cost are worth it.  Just to name a few, you can expect bad breath, lack of energy, constipation, kidney stones, and/or dizziness.  If you have any kidney issues, your are not a candidate, and statistics indicate that by the time you return from your honeymoon, 60% will have gained it all back.
